Jacques Tassin

Plant ecology researcher, naturalist and writer

Jacques Tassin is Director of Ecology Research at CIRAD (Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement). He has been editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Bois et Forêts des Tropiques, a member of IPBES (Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services), and is currently a corresponding member of the Académie d'agriculture de France. He promotes an ecology that takes account of the sensitive manifestations of living things, and has written Pour une écologie du sensible and Ecoute les Voix du monde, both published by Odile Jacob. He has helped to raise awareness of the agentivity of plants, with two other books, À quoi pensent les plantes and Penser comme un arbre, also published by Odile Jacob. Today, he is heavily involved in the relationship between ecology and the arts, primarily literature, but also choreography, graphic arts and music. He is also the biographer of the writer Maurice Genevoix, to whom he has devoted several works.
