Fashion & Design
From creativity to sustainability: shifting the fashion and design industries through inspiring stories.
Fashion has always played a major role throughout history, reflecting the evolution of our societies and ways of thinking, and helping to break down norms and taboos. Its power of influence is a real asset that we can draw on to build fairer, more conscious and sustainable societies.
For buying a garment is never insignificant.
Behind every item of clothing, every pair of shoes, every accessory, lies an entire industry whose impact today is extremely negative for the environment, for workers and also for consumers. Between multiple forms of pollution, the depletion of natural resources, high carbon footprints, increased inequality and threats to health, the excesses of fashion, and fast fashion in particular, represent a real danger.
Raising awareness, educating and training are essential to better understand the entire production and supply chain and thus effectively combat the social and environmental problems that arise from it.
But at the same time, we also need to inspire people to accelerate change.
How?
By offering new positive narratives, where sustainability is finally seen as creative and trendy for the values it embodies: respect for the planet and its resources, social and economic justice, inclusivity and innovation. By making slow fashion more desirable than fast fashion.
This is the ambition of the Green Shift initiative through its sustainable fashion and design programme:
Foster the emergence of positive and inspiring ecological narratives
Educate and raise awareness on sustainable and innovative fashion and design solutions
Question our lifestyles to re-invent a more harmonious relationship with the living world
Support the transition of the cultural sector and fashion and design industries
Empowering next gen of designers through education and capacity building
