Artistic Director of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer
Sometimes soul, sometimes jazz, a touch of funk, often rock, Alfonso Ciulla's heart beats to the rhythm of music. Artistic Director of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer since July 2023, he has become the master orchestrator of musical days and nights in the Principality. In addition to the Monte-Carlo Summer Festival, which welcomes the biggest international stars to the Salle des Etoiles, he also oversees the programming for the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, New Moods, the Salle Garnier for its exceptional concerts, and even the live music offered at the Marlow restaurant and the Bar Américain at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. His latest highlights include concerts by Lenny Kravitz, M. and Thibault Cauvin, and the group Air.
Alfonso Ciulla has dedicated his career to organising live music evenings for the past twenty-five years. From major electro events in the early 2000s to musicals straight from London's West End (Grease, Cats, Mamma Mia, West Side Story, Dirty Dancing) and regular events showcasing young artists, he has made eclectic styles and a variety of formats his speciality, driven solely by his passion for ‘good music’.
First introduced to opera singing in the arms of his opera-loving mother in Sicily, Alfonso Ciulla arrived in Monaco at the age of 12. He broke away from his mother's tastes, preferring the bass guitar and drums, which he played without seeking to become a virtuoso. But he found in them an inexhaustible source of all the musical variations he loved. He went on to become a vinyl collector and artistic director. Another way of being in music.
