The militant dance collective Minuit 12 at the Green Shift Festival
The Green Shift Festival
The militant dance collective Minuit 12 has been invited to participate in the Green Shift Festival 2024, organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Its three founders will perform at the ‘Imaginaires de la mer’ evening on Thursday 6 June 2024.
Founded in 2021 by artists and dancers Pauline Lida, Jade Verda and Justine Sène, Minuit 12 is a creative and research collective that explores ecological themes. Using the body as its raw material, the collective aims to formulate the contours of artistic creation shaped by an ever-increasing understanding of living organisms, biodiversity and climate change.
Each of its creations and workshops explores how the body and the senses integrate, interact and question our relationship with the natural environment. Set in nocturnal, poetic and organic worlds, the performances are part of an interdisciplinary and hybrid approach. They bring together dancers from a variety of styles and communities (hip hop, locking, waacking, classical, contemporary, electro, etc.), and the creative team is made up of artists from diverse backgrounds and practices (composers, designers, photographers, set designers, stylists, etc.).
The collective's activity is twofold: creative and activist. Its members also participate in powerful climate mobilisation using art as a mode of action, through dance performances for activist actions in collaboration with activists and NGOs. For Minuit 12, there are no boundaries between dance studios, theatres and the street!
Come and enjoy Minuit 12 performance at the Green Shift Festival on Thursday 6 June 2024 from 7pm.
An excerpt from the choreographed piece Écume will be presented at the opening of the evening ‘Imaginaires de la mer’ (Imaginary worlds of the sea).
‘Like a danced tale, Écume immerses the audience in a story as old as the world itself: the story that connects us to water. Water that we control and dominate. Water that gives us life or takes it away.’
An experience with the audience will be offered at the end of the evening for a communion of minds and hearts through movement.
Finally, a dance workshop on the theme of biodiversity will be organised as part of the festival with a Year 6 class from Fontvieille School, in collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sports. Through fun and sensitive exercises, the children will explore knowledge of living things through their bodies, accompanied by the three founding dancers of the collective.
