A new “Odyssey” for ULIS classes
Projects
Following the success of its first edition, the “L’Odyssée de l’ULIS” programme, organised by the WILDLIFE Interactions association and led by its President, wildlife photographer Olivier Anrigo, was once again implemented during this school year for the ULIS class (localised units for inclusive education) at Collège Charles III, with renewed support from the Department of National Education, Youth and Sports and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, and in partnership with the Monaco Red Cross.
Designed for pupils with disabilities in the Principality, this programme offers an original immersive educational approach inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. It features a journey in four stages (theoretical knowledge sharing, exploration of the coastline, a sea trip and presentation of the project by the pupils), inviting young people to discover, respect and protect the living world by exploring the biodiversity of the Pelagos Sanctuary.
Each stage is designed to strengthen their knowledge of marine ecosystems, their ecological awareness and cross-curricular skills such as observation, language and creativity, in close collaboration with the teaching teams. Throughout the Odyssey, the pupils meet committed stakeholders (a wildlife photographer, a responsible fisherman and a certified Whale Watching captain) and enjoy a unique experience observing marine species.
Held on Wednesday 24 June, the presentation session gave the pupils, now young ambassadors for the Pelagos Sanctuary, the opportunity to meet the programme partners and present the work they had carried out during the year. It was a rich and friendly moment of exchange, which perfectly illustrated the value and clear success of this educational approach.
