Minuit 12: the voice of the Ocean
Inspiration
At a time when biodiversity is under threat more than ever, the activist dance collective Minuit 12 has chosen to become one with the ocean to alert, raise awareness and move people.
Produced in partnership with the NGO BLOOM and the Ocean Coalition, the short film Océan directed by Rachel Dano calls for more ambitious protection of marine areas, which are still too often exposed to industrial exploitation.
Contemporary dance, hip hop and waacking come together in a committed piece that reminds us that in France, less than 0.1% of mainland waters are actually protected from destructive fishing.
Founded in 2021 by artists and dancers Pauline Lida, Jade Verda and Justine Sène, Minuit 12 is a creative, research and activist collective that highlights climate and biodiversity issues.
Summing up their approach, the co-founders explain that "each of (their) creations explores the way in which the body and the senses integrate, interact and question our relationship with natural environments. We love the wind, the waves, the mountains. We create a nocturnal, dreamlike and organic universe".
The Minuit 12 collective will be at the Green Shift Festival on Thursday 5 June at 6pm, giving a live performance to accompany the screening of their new short film.
