The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in partnership with the Chambre Monégasque de la Mode, organized the conference Tides of Change – Fashion Innovation for Positive Impact on Thursday 16 April at the Yacht Club de Monaco, as part of Monte-Carlo Fashion Week.
Bringing together entrepreneurs, researchers and students committed to transforming the textile industry, the conference invited participants to look at fashion through a wider lens: from the agricultural origins of raw materials to the full life cycle of the final product and consumer awareness.
One idea emerged clearly from the discussion: for responsible fashion to truly scale, it must first be desirable. While seduction is the primary driver, conviction must follow. Consumers and industry stakeholders alike need greater transparency and a clearer understanding of what they are truly buying into and supporting.
Several speakers presented their work and projects. Runa Ray, founder of KelpTex, and Pier Paolo Riccardo Cimatti shared new approaches to creating materials from kelp. Célia Roussin, founder of Pépite Raisin and Tannin Divin, presented her work on the valorisation of wine by-products, including alongside Louise Jean, a student at ITECH Lyon, a prototype of sneakers dyed with pigments derived from grapes. Fanny Deléage, founder of ReNature (La Tannerie Végétale), shared her research on biomaterials as sustainable alternatives to leather and conventional materials. Anne Turtaut, founder of SINTHS, together with Léa Comparon, sustainability expert and biologist, presented their brand's fully biodegradable hoodie.
The conference benefited from the participation and support of Federica Nardoni Spinetta, President and Founder of the Chambre Monégasque de la Mode – Monaco Fashion.
