Communications &External Relations Delegate for SMEG Group

As the historic energy operator of the Principality of Monaco, the SMEG Group is one of the few fully integrated energy companies covering the entire energy value chain—from production to distribution, including associated services and infrastructures.

SMEG is an energy infrastructure and services operator responsible for the distribution and supply of electricity and gas, as well as the operation and maintenance of public lighting in the Principality of Monaco.

For more than 40 years, SMEG has been designing, building and operating district heating and cooling plants using local, renewable and recovered energy sources, including energy recovery from household waste and marine geothermal energy. SMEG puts its expertise and know-how as an energy provider at the service of the energy transition by offering its customers turnkey solutions that are financed and tailored to their individual needs and uses.

As a century-old company, SMEG has experienced significant growth in France in recent years, driven by a strategy of external growth and structural investments. It is now one of the leading electric vehicle charging networks in Europe and continues to deploy assets in the field of renewable energies.

With its strong position as a provider of low-carbon energy solutions and its prospects for sustained growth, the SMEG Group supports local authorities in their transition towards more sustainable and resilient energy systems.

SMEG is led by Thomas Battaglione, Chief Executive Officer of SMEG and Deputy Chairman of SMA. The Group relies on multidisciplinary teams and on its subsidiary SMA for certain operational activities. The Group as a whole employs more than 550 people. SMEG is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified.

In 2025, SMEG inaugurated its new headquarters in Fontvieille, known as the ‘SMEG Building’. Rising ten storeys high and covering an area of approximately 12,000 m², the building houses the company’s teams, private tenants and several government departments. The inauguration, presided over by SAS Prince Albert II and SAS Princess Charlène, was part of SMEG’s 135th anniversary and marks an important milestone in the company’s history.   The new headquarters illustrate the Group’s ongoing evolution towards energy models that integrate technological innovation, environmental performance and adaptation to contemporary urban challenges.
