Jacques Rougerie

Jacques Rougerie is a world-renowned French visionary architect, academician and explorer, specialising in coastal living environments and marine and underwater habitats. Passionate about the major challenges facing our planet, oceans and even space, he grounds his research and projects in bio-inspired, resilient and sustainable architecture.

Through his architecture practice Rougerie+Tangram, he has designed and delivered projects in France and internationally, including sea museums, sports and aquatic centres, and major port and airport infrastructures. He is also the architect of the Olympic Marina for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Marseille.

In 2009, he founded the Jacques Rougerie Foundation – Académie des Beaux-Arts, hosted by the Institut de France. The Foundation embodies boldness, creativity and commitment in addressing major global challenges. Since its creation, it has supported innovative architectural projects that bring together art, architecture, science and technology to respond to urgent environmental issues such as sea level rise, climate change and the preservation of coastal and marine ecosystems.

He regularly delivers lectures around the world on architecture and living environments.
